hello everybody, today we spoke about blogs and finally tonight we spoked a lot about Extreme Home Entertainment System and especialy about hurricanes. I let you discover the links.

  I send you a compilation of today's e.mails then.

F.

http://n.webring.com/hub?ring=sustainability

It is a evidence that the big majority of people use google. We know that they control the ranking with money. The necesity of a really alternative engine is to let the possibility to the users ( like you did in altport before) to say if the ranking and the definition of the links are correct or not and through the evaluation of the users the ranking is changing. Then if we build a screen saver with a datasbase the logical way to propose links is to let the users say if the contains are relevant or not.

except that project was not supported, ultimately, by the whitney. that's why i add the big arrow about fashion and ideology. without that support from some community, the tree falls in the forest without anyone to hear it.

We can see millions of blogs growing up all over the web. Finally all this blogs are independant but the comon search engine like google is not built in the same way of open dialogue and transparency. Finally such a project like altport participative search engine should be naturally one of the common node to webrings and blogs but not goggle.

the most interesting phenomenon in regard to what you are mentioning are the XML-based aggregators such as this:

  http://www.x-arn.org/artnode/artnode.php

these types of sites can spontaneously link together the activity of sites (like mine) that are reported in this format:

  http://artcontext.org/wire/artcontextRSS2.0Feed.php

Extreme Home Entertainment System. I think the 'E.H.E.S.' could be a way of inserting stories, but it would have to be filtered in some way.

if there are so much informations disaminated all over blogs and reblogs, the most interesting project is not to amplify the quantity of information but proposing new invironments for contains like recycling scientific maps to contextualize information in space and time. A simple way to contextualize a information is locating it in the place where it was born on earth. The other way is to give it a trajectory, a spin (hurricane), a elevation (OW), a speed....

one thing that we could do that would probably be constructive would be to make a kind of corporate identity (logos, splash screen) related to the 1. hurricane (channel) and 2. ozone. for the ozone, i'm thinking maybe the molecule.

this idea is related to the 'extreme home entertainment system' idea. people could then choose from logos of hurricanes or ozone or whatever to enter sections of the 'system.'

i guess the 'entertainment' is going to be provided by the participants: the sense of the telepresence of the dispersed users. how to convey this presence in an interface is a challenge to contend with. we have some prototypes for a virtual sit in for ozone watcher, but another possibility would be to focus more on the news items about various environmental issues. we could provide an interface for people to direct stories to other users who are connected. this would give each person a sense of spreading the word about an issue. stories could be drawn from lists like this:

then filtered by keyword.

maybe that's too didactic, but it's a start...

the continuous flux of news each minutes is really interesting. Breaking the waves of news for a big Tsunami ! Moving last news in a vortex, linking news to users, storing news in the ozone hole to resolve it.... f.

just down this page : http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/index.htm

there is a link to : http://hurricane.weathercenter.com/

that's sounds good no ? f.

even better:
