Net Neutrality or Telco Supremacy? "Phone companies want a free hand to charge content vendors for access to the improved networks they're building to pipe TV signals to the home." -- The Tech Chronicles The U.S. House of Representatives will vote Friday on legislation designed to boost the control of big Telcos over how bandwidth is allocated. The Senate is considering versions of the same law. The basic idea of this proposal is that the Telcos would change the basic way that Internet data is routed so that the data favored by large corporations is given priority. Of course this will let them charge more for certain kinds of profitable Internet content. If you are an American who likes the relatively level playing field presented by the Internet we know today, it might be a good time to pick up the phone and call your congressman or woman. Tell them to support Net Neutrality and you will be helping small content providers (and artists) like me to operate on the Information Superhighway rather than being shunted off onto the Information Dirt Road.
